Porto da Figueira da Foz “ainda longe da sustentabilidade”

A três anos do cinquentenário da inauguração das obras que reforçaram a sua importância na costa portuguesa, o Porto da Figueira da Foz continua a crescer. Hermano Sousa, presidente da Comunidade Portuária, aproveitou as comemorações do 47.º aniversário da infraestrutura para salientar os pontos fortes e as debilidades do porto figueirense. Depois de, em 2006, ter quebrado a barreira do milhão de toneladas movimentada, o Porto da Figueira da Foz prepara-se para, ainda este ano, bater o duplo dessa marca. Ainda assim, explicou aos jornalistas à margem da cerimónia de aniversário, a capacidade instalada, de 3 milhões de toneladas/ano, está longe de ser atingida. “Apesar da admirável evolução, não podemos dormir à sombra destes resultados”, defende. Para maximizar a utilização do porto, explicou, “é preciso consolidar o estado da barra”, fixando o calado, ao longo de todo o ano, “primeiro nos 6,5 metros” e, posterior e idealmente, “nos 7,5 metros, já a pensar nos navios de nova geração, que estão agora a sair dos estaleiros e chegarão em breve ao mercado”, acrescentou. “Estudar e entender a dinâmica que cria o assoreamento de inverno” é um dos requisitos para que o calado do porto figueirense possa receber embarcações de grande porte. A solução, porém, deverá sempre passar “por dragagens, que custam muito dinheiro”.
